Secure Cargo and Load / Unload Goods

Secure Cargo, and Load and Unload Goods

Under the HVNL, it is an office to drive a heavy vehicle on a road when the vehicle or its load does not comply with the loading requirements that apply to that vehicle.

If a vehicle’s load is unsafe because it is poorly placed or inadequately restrained, the driver is putting itself and other road users at risk. The load restraint guides provide drivers, owners, operators, freight consigners, vehicle manufacturers, equipment manufacturers, and suppliers with the basic safety principles that should be followed.

Importantly, parties in the Chain of Responsibility (CoR) have a duty to eliminate or minimise risks associated with the transport activities they influence or control, so far as is reasonably practicable. The risks that unrestrained loads present to other road users are well known.
